Introduction
Sought wherever there is skinny water, the Bonefish has earned a reputation as one of the world’s greatest gamefish. Silver in color with a dark back, bonefish have adapted perfectly to feed on the shallow water flats of the world. Bonefish have been caught in nets in different parts of the world up to 20 lbs. Anglers can expect a rod and reel caught fish to be anywhere from 2 pounds to 14 pounds depending on the fishing destination. Eating shrimp, crabs and small baitfish, bonefish forage the flats in search of prey. Being virtually defenseless, other than their blinding speed, the bonefish relies on its color for natural camouflage to stay alive. Think of the most nervous person you know and multiply that behavior by 20 and that is the life of a bonefish. To say that the fish is skittish is an understatement. They are very aware that while on a flat feeding, they can become something else’s food. Catching a bonefish is a real challenge and a very exciting and rewarding experience.
